Start your Web designing business in India: A complete business plan

There are many lucrative small businesses in India, but the business which I am going to tell in this blog is web designing business. You would have read it before however this blog would give you ample exposure about website business. Let’s start.

Why web designing business: Source says there are 400 odd websites being created in a minute. You just imagine the number of websites in a year. Business owners know the benefits of website. Ever since Internet is reaching every nook and corner of India, more and more business owners try to grow their business online mainly small towns and rural areas.

You as a website designing company can help those people to flourish their online business. So getting into website design business is a right choice. Secondly this business is never ending.

Who can start this business: I won’t say anybody can do this business. Those who have got skill set and knowledge can start this business. But there certain people, who have got great passion toward this business, can start this business but before getting into this, you must attend training and do some projects.

Skill set you need: You must learn web designing tool such as Adobe Dreamweaver. This is the best tool. But this tool alone does not make you perfect. Added to this you must learn domain name registration and web hosting. As I told earlier, some people are there who want to start this business but lack skill set can go for drag and dropwebsite tool. You do not want to learn any tool. Yahoo small business gives you build your own website by using drag and drop. Also Yahoo small business offers business opportunity.

Next stepis to go official, I mean company registration. Yes this is must. At least go for proprietorship. Later you can go for LLP/pvt ltd. Open bank account in your company’s name.

Infra you need: Start with small office. Buy heavy duty PCs with internet connection. Buy original software like Adobe Dreamweaver and Photoshop. But most of the people use crack version. It’s your call. Have 24/7 power supply.

Other software you may need: winzip, filezilla, pdf, and antivirus software. Added to this you have to be a member of stock photo provider so that you can buy some photographs and banners. Go for royalty free images as they are cheap.

Team setup: To start this business you not only need web designer but other professional like graphic designer, content writer. Graphic designer is must. Because they will create banner, logo and other graphic elements. You may hire full time employee but make sure you must hire two freelance graphic designers. Hire freelance content writer at least two writers. We forget one thing. Yes marketing guy. Hire reliable marketing guy. Be very careful while hiring marketing guy. They can destroy your business. If your knowledge level is lesser than the marketing guy, what would you do, I mean how you would handle them. Since you and your company are new, I won’t recommend you to hire fresher marketing guy. If everybody is new, who will drive the business? So hiring reliable and experience is recommended.

Build your own website: My suggestion to you is spend as much time as you can with your website. Define your business very clearly. Segregate your customer. Think how you can help your customer. While creating your website, pls involve your graphic, web designer, content writer and other team member. Brief them properly. Give them clear vision about your website. Make sure your site is user friendly and can be easily navigated. Add chat facility and contact form to you web site.

• Good writing (can you copy form that site): Do not copy from any site. It’s plagiarism. Charge extra for writing
• I need logo (some people believe logo is free. Tell them they have to pay for it)
• Flash should be attractive (you must tell them it needs time and brainstorming. You can charge for it)
• Hey I need chat facility (yes chat facility is free, but you need time to add the coding. May charge little money since you are spending time on it)
• Why there is no Facebook like button (you can add those button, but ask for money
• Can I add map in my site (same as above)
• After three to six month customers come back and say:

Why my site is not there in Google (tell them, they have to do SEO)

My site is not opening (may be they have not paid for domain renewal and hosting)

Hey buddy! I need it urgently pls add two pages. Add some good images and content. Give me tomorrow (website designing needs time and effort. You keep your buffer time and then commit)

• Graphic designers (they will make you dance. Have back up graphic designer)

• Web designers (same as above)

• PHP/my sql professional (same as above)

• Content writer (they might tell you, there is no briefing, how can I write copy. Make sure you brief them)

• SEO (optional)

• Web hosting (you can start your own hosting or else outsource hosting to other company)
